We appreciate the challenges everyone is going through during this time with the COVID-19 Virus and although we cannot see you, we are here to support and offer you ways to keep your immune system, your physical body and your mind in the best possible condition.
Tips for maintaining a strong immune system during the lockdown
The first thing we need to focus on is maintaining a strong healthy immune system. Laura Primic, the Iridologist and healthcare practitioner at Truwellness, has the following to share about maintaining a strong immune system.
The product that has had the greatest effect for my clients and my family is my immune boosting 5 in 1 Superfood Supplement – containing Moringa, Baobab, Fulvic Acid, Diatomacious Earth and Zeolite, a supplement that contains an abundance of Omegas, minerals, vitamins, amino acids and antioxidants.
One of my patients Deidre from the Eastern Cape has this to say, “We are doing our best to follow the Government guidelines to keep ourselves safe but knowing our immune systems are supported by this Superfood combination is the best we can do for ourselves.”
Below are some immune boosting herbs, fruits, vegetables and oils you may want to consider including in your diet:
* Vegetables – broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, green vegetables
* Fruit – Oranges, lemons, limes, all berries, grapefruit, Kiwifruit
* Herbs – Astragalus, Reishi mushrooms, Elderberry,
* Essential oils – Oregano oil, sage oil, eucalyptus oil, Thyme oil, Black Seed Oil
* Tea – Ginger and lemon tea, Orange and ginger tea, Green tea
* Supplements – 5 in 1 Superfood, Afrigetics Immune Booster, Natural Healing Immune Support, Bound-oxygen Sinus & Hayfever spray, Sore throat & Cough spray, etc.
* Natural Hand sanitiser – Ethanol based with essential oils
Talking about food, why not have a look at For Food’s Sake and see what their lovely weekly menu is and order meals for next week to be delivered at the Truwellness Centre. Go onto their website if you live in a complex as they may very well be delivering to your complex anyway. Their meals are healthy, tasty and a great option for any family.
Every minute of every day we are exposed to organisms that we inhale or swallow and it is our immune systems that prevent our bodies from being affected by these organisms. A healthy immune system removes bacteria, viruses, parasites and pathogens from the body. It is when our immune system is under active and/or over active that we develop infections.
It is of paramount importance to adhere to social distancing, wash hands regularly, keep good nutrition and supplement your diet with immune boosting supplements.

The importance of exercise during lockdown
Andre Brand, the personal trainer at Truwellness centre, has this to say to encourage all of us…
“During the ‘lockdown’ we must make the best of what we can, with what we have. Doing some form of physical training once a day will definitely benefit you physically and mentally. By doing body weight exercises, for example push-ups, sit-ups and squats, your body will release endorphins which makes you feel much better. This could be as little as 20 minutes a day.
For the more enthusiastic individuals out there, you can contact me for weekly video training programs that will leave you in a better physical and mental condition than before the start of the lock down. Now, everyone has the time. Use it to your advantage and start your day healthy.”

Tips for maintaining mental wellbeing during lockdown and how to relax
Rafiq Lockhat is the Psychologist at the Truwellness centre and he has these words of wisdom; “I don’t agree with the words social distancing. What we actually want is ‘physical distancing’ from each other but concomitantly more social interaction, on social media, on the phone, texts, anything which keeps us connected. This is the time to interact with family, friends, neighbours. It is one of the best things we can do for our mental health. This is not the time for social isolation.”
Stay positive
With all the tragic things that are happening as a result of the coronavirus, now might seem like an unusual time to talk about staying positive. Now, more than ever, is the time for us to be proactive about creating small moments of happiness in our days every day – findings in psychology research show us that positive emotions help us undo the negative effects of stress. Find something to be grateful for everyday, and as Rafiq says above stay connected!
Stay active
Exercise helps to reduce stress, boost energy levels and keep you more alert and is also allows the lymphatic system get rid of toxins.
Volunteer
Although we are all in isolation there is nothing more satisfying than the feeling you get when you have helped someone. Community spirit is lacking for many so this may be an excellent opportunity to create a WhatsApp community group to ensure the elderly and vulnerable in your road / complex / neighbourhood are supported and have daily contact with the outside world. This can be a lifeline for some, amusement for others and knowing there is a community to support you in times of need is a powerful thing indeed.
Escape in entertainment
Escape from reality for a period every day, in the form of books, films or your favourite TV shows. Use your time at home to finally give that stack of books your attention and delve into a world of storytelling, or make the most of online streaming services, such as Netflix, and relax on the sofa while watching a new series or film or listening to an audio book.
Try some relaxation techniques
If you are having trouble switching off from everything, why not try some relaxation techniques to help you settle at the end of the day? Try breathing techniques for stress, anxiety and panic that take just a few minutes each day. There are also many mindfulness audio apps that you can download to help you during times of stress or if you are struggling to fall asleep. Try yoga or just sitting in a quiet spot in the garden.
Stick to a daily routine
Being at home all the time can result in falling into some bad habits, such as avoiding regular exercise, working longer hours, and not taking regular screen breaks if you are working from home.
To avoid falling into these habits, try to establish a daily routine and stick to it. Start your day at roughly the same time each day and make sure to set aside time for regular work breaks, a daily exercise regime and some downtime.
Give yourself a project or learn something new
Having a fun project to focus on will not only help to keep you busy every day, but it will also ensure your mind isn’t always thinking about the ongoing crisis. Set aside some time to delve into a favourite hobby, such as cooking or baking, or make a start on a project you’ve always wanted to do, like writing a story, drawing or painting, crafts or tending to your garden.
